Benjamin William "Ben" Barnes, age 46, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025. Ben was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and was raised in Kern River Valley, California. He graduated from Kern Valley High School in 1998 and shortly thereafter answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army.

During his military service, Ben's first deployment was to Kosovo as a United Nations peacekeeper. He was later stationed in Ramadi and Kuwait. Following the events of September 11, he completed four deployments in the Operation Iraqi Freedom theater of war between 2001and 2005. Serving as an E-5 Sergeant, Ben operated motor transport, led convoys carrying artillery, and used his natural mechanical talents to keep vital operations running under difficult conditions in high-risk areas.

For his dedication and courage, Ben was honored with numerous commendations, including the Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and both the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals.

In his civilian life, Ben was known for his love of racing and could often be found at Mesa Marin Raceway, cheering and competing alongside his best friends-Richard Henry, Tim Andrews, and Kris Krill. Those who knew Ben will remember his steady loyalty, quiet humor, and deep love for his family. Ben married the love of his life, Angel, and together they built their home in Maryville, Tennessee, where they welcomed their daughter, Reagan, in 2008. He provided for his family as a skilled heavy haul driver, proudly operating nine-axle trucks.

Ben is survived by his loving wife, Angel Barnes, and his cherished daughter, Reagan Barnes; his mother, Risa Bletcher; father, Bill Barnes; sisters, Katie Bletcher, Julie Taylor and family, Tammy Campbell and family; brother, Garrett Bletcher; nieces Kaidyn Forbes, Dottie Sue and Meshelle Bletcher; and nephew Pard Waylon Bletcher. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Donnie Ray Bletcher.

A funeral service with full military honors will be held on Friday, December 5th, at 2:00 p.m. at Arvin National Cemetery, California. Ben's service, sacrifice, and love for his family and community will never be forgotten.
