Benjamin F. “Ben” Harris, 90, of Dawson, GA, died December 2, 2023 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 2:00 pm at The Dawson United Methodist Church of Dawson. Rev. Raymond Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Harris was born on June 8, 1933 at home in Webster County, GA to William and Wille Lee Harris. He was raised on the family farm, attended Webster County Schools, and served in the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Harris was employed with CSX Railroad as a Section Foreman for twenty-eight years. He lived in Plains, Americus and Webster County, before moving to Dawson in 1975. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Dawson. Ben enjoyed spending time with family, riding the country roads, going back to his home place, and collecting various items.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Marie Harris, a granddaughter, Lisa Icard, his wife, Martha Will Melton Harris and five siblings.
Survivors include his children, Dee Ellen Suarez of Commerce, GA, Linda (Terry) Davenport of Athens, GA, Anne Bass of Dawson, GA, James “Jimmy” (Mary Alice) Johnson of Dawson, GA, and Tammy Clark Deen (Charles “Chuck”) Moore of Panama City Beach, FL, a brother, Howard (Beverly) Harris of Vienna, GA, his grandchildren, Tory (Susan) Bell of Commerce, GA, Luis Suarez of Buford, GA, Dana (Courtney) Suarez of Arnoldsville, GA, Edward (Crystal) Suarez of Watkinsville, GA, Lorisa (Chris) Royal of Athens, GA, Tito (Rosa) Suarez of Statham, GA, Teresa (Robby) Freeman of Dawson, GA, Paige (Ken) Johnson of Cobb, GA, Tanya (Adam) Scott of Leesburg, GA, Christopher Clark of Savannah, GA and Jameson Clark of Newton, GA, a grandson-in-law, Rex Icard of Dawson, GA, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Dawson United Methodist Church of Dawson.
The family would like to extend their profound appreciation to Mary Jane Etherton, a dear friend and caregiver.
