I would think about Ben from time to time. We were friends in college at Bowling Green State University in Ohio in the mid 60s. I once visited his parents' famous Ben Howes Chicken House in So. Middleboro MA with my Dad in 1964 or '65 on a trip to the Cape. We enjoyed some great fried chicken and fresh rolls.
Later, In 1968, my wife and I visited Ben and his wife and I believe a couple of small children at their home while on our delayed honeymoon trip throughout New England and Cape Cod. I recall when we arrived, Ben had been collecting cranberries in a nearby bog, and he was busy feeding his farm animals. We had a brief visit and maybe enjoyed a beer. R.I.P. Ben, Eric & Diana Doner

Myself and my wife,Susan extend our deepest sympathy to Llewella and to Ben's children and family. Ben was a very interesting man to talk to and to know he had a great sense of humor, one needs only to look at Ben's pirate flag at his dock and most certainly his combination totem pole and Osprey nest..
Passing by Ben's one-of-a-kind totem pole gives me a smile ,and I'm sure many others, every time and it will always remind me of Ben.
Ben loved Agawam Mill Pond and hated the invasive weeds as much as I did. Ben and Lluella have been staunch supporters and members of the neighborhood association that restored the pond to being the great resource that it is today..Ben's loss has touched many.
