Benjie (as we called Ben Lozare) was one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. He was teacher, mentor, colleague, ever loyal friend to me personally and to his alma mater the University of the Philippines' College of Mass Communication. Our lives and work intersected multiple times over the years. He is unforgettable and will be terribly missed. Rest in peace, Benjie.

Ben was always in a different wavelength. He knew how to bring a level of spirituality to our mission elevating our thinking and creating a collective soul that was tremendously satisfactory and "beyond imagination". Ben and I started working at JHUCCP at the same time--April 1990 and he was the first person I met after the interview process. He shared with me his days of political activism in bringing down Marcos dictatorship....What a treat...!! As a Latina, I felt privileged to having been exposed first hand from one of the revolutionary forces that brought democracy to the Philippines. Ben dear, you will always be in my heart.

Honoring Ben, whose words of encouragement and guidance still resonate, remind us that learning is a lifelong journey.
He was an incredible and undoubtedly one of the most inspiring lecturers I've ever met.
Thank you for not only educated minds but also touched hearts.
Your legacy will forever inspire generations to come.
You´ll be dearly missed, Ben

The passing of a great man...Ben was my Yoda, he who prodded me to think beyond imagination, to question everything, to be evidence-informed but not evidence-limited and instead to be evidence-generating! I want to share one of his last emails to me (we kept in touch and sent each other books every now and then)...
From Ben: "I am doing well relatively but still confronting several health issues! I am mobile and can even drive but it looks like I am spending most of my time at Hopkins Hospital for testing and treatments. I am hanging on but I realize that there is an end to everything. I have been trying to learn more about the concept of "health span", versus the binary and limited concept of life span-either we are alive or we are not.
Health span I think is a much more profound concept. To be alive and healthy andcapable of pursuing what we love to do. It is not binary.
So much to say. Wish we could meet again person sometime."
Thank you for being such an empowering mentor, and a beloved friend. I will strive to keep your legacy alive by disseminating one of the best lessons I learned from you: "Never stop learning because life never stops teaching!"
We'll meet again someday.

Brod Benjie is as decent and as clean a human being as his listerine smile. He led a great life. Kudos Brod, you´re now in the light. Prayers and condolences for your family.
