Benjamin McCaskill Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnie P. Bragg Funeral Home, Inc. - Paterson on May 19, 2022.
Benjamin McCaskill Jr., was born on August 29, 1966, to Mable and Benjamin McCaskill Sr. in Brooklyn NY, where they resided in the Redhook housing development.
He attended the Booklyn School System. As a child he was very friendly and easy to play with. Growing up in Redhook was simple and fun for Benjamin.
As a child, he enjoyed going the park and did all kinds of fun things with his sisters. As Ben grew older, he started to hang out more with his sister Jacqueline. They would go to the parks, the stadium, the baseball fields, and they practically lived at the Redhook Pool. Just taking advantage of all of the other unmentioned activities there was to do in the neighborhood. That's what made the community great for children growing up back then.
As a young man Benjamin played basketball in Jr. High School, he also developed a love for music as being around his parents who loved and played it loud and often. Remembering his turntables, and how he would mix records while listening through his headphones, more so, having one side sitting between his shoulder and ear. He would scratch, and mix the records as he switched back and forth
from one turntable to another was the thing, he knew just when to cut in and bring back the beat, and was very good at it. We loved to watch him at work and playing music outside was a treat.
Benjamin enjoyed showing off his skills, making up and writing down rhymes, then saying them while he played, made it all worthwhile. I want to give a special acknowledgement to Alicia Reid, who shared her love along with Ben and together they built a life alongside her children, and through that union their beautiful daughter (Anastasia) was born. She was his pride and joy and he loved her very much.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Mable Drakeford McCaskill. Great aunt: Mable Cato, Aunts: Rosa Lee Jackson, Janie Patricia McCaskill, Lula Mae McCaskill Dyers, Uncles: John Henry McCaskill, Joseph McCaskill, and cousin: Joseph L. McCaskill.
