Benjamin Joseph Rex, age 37, formerly of Milan, Missouri, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Ben was born on May 1, 1988, in Warrensburg, Missouri, the son of Michael and Sara (Shrewsbury) Rex. Early in life, Ben moved from Missouri to a farm in western Kansas, where his love for the outdoors blossomed and became the foundation of his lifelong passion for nature. In 1995, he returned to northeast Missouri and grew up on a farm, where he developed a strong and honorable work ethic that defined his character.
Ben discovered his passion for running while attending high school in Milan, Missouri. After graduating in 2006, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Dietetics from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, graduating in December 2011. He moved out west to Wyoming where he worked for the State of Wyoming as a Nutritionist. There, he embraced an active lifestyle filled with hiking, fishing, hunting, and running-and took great pride in completely renovating and updating his home, showcasing his creativity and determination.
Ben had a joyful spirit and a loving nature that made him a delight to be around. He was kind, respectful, full of laughter, and endlessly driven. He had the mindset to achieve anything he put his heart into.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Maurice and Jacqueline Rex, and his maternal grandfather, Donald Shrewsbury.
He is survived by his mother, Sara Rex of Trenton, Missouri, and father, Michael Rex of Milan, Missouri; his brother, Jacob Rex (Megan) of Apex, North Carolina; his maternal grandmother, Jane Shrewsbury of Lathrop, Missouri; nieces, Kinley and Ava Rex; uncle, Mike Shrewsbury (Toni) of Lathrop; aunt, Susan McElhinney (Monty) of Mission, Texas; uncle, Leslie Rex (Dixie) of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; as well as numerous cousins and extended family members.
Benjamin was a remarkable young man, full of life and generosity. He will be deeply missed, never forgotten, always loved-and forever held in the arms of Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Ben's favorite organization, Feeding America, in care of the funeral home. Ben actively supported this cause, running countless miles and gathering donations to ensure children receive meals throughout the summer.
Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop, Missouri, (816) 740-4658. Online condolences may be shared at www.stithfamilyfunerals.com.
