WADESBORO - On Friday, January 23, 2026, Mr. Benjamin Leak Tyson, 95, passed away peacefully at his home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 28, 2026 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Marsh officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Ben was born July 7, 1930 in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late John Caudle Tyson and the late Irene Williams Tyson. He worked for more than 45 years with West Knitting Mills retiring as a machinist. He was also a farmer.
He was a long time member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church in Wadesboro where he had served as a deacon.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 76 years, Betty Horne Tyson; his daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Rodney Ray of Wadesboro and Melanie and Billy Phillips of Burnsville; his grandchildren, Eric Tyson (Jean) of Wilmington, Ashley Tyson of Aquadale, Brandy Mullis of Wadesboro, Emily Stewart (Greg) of Polkton, Kelly Miles (Josh) of Peachland, Nicole Luquire (Heath) of Albemarle, Josh Phillips (Cortney) of Patrick, SC, Jessica Benton (Spud) of Ansonville, and John Phillips (Jenny) of Burnsville; 29 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren and his sister, Margaret Batten of Gainesville, GA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Derwin Tyson and Mikey Tyson; his grandson, Shane Tyson and by his brothers and sister, Baxter Tyson, Henry Tyson, and Frances Floyd.
Ben enjoyed, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was known for growing the best collards around. He was a hard worker and excellent provider for his family. A very simple man, being at home suited him best and he dearly loved his wife and all of his family.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Atrium Union and Anson Hopsice the kind and loving way in which they cared for Ben.
