Bennie Jean Dawdy Airhart, 95, of Amarillo, TX passed away July 20, 2025.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will follow in Happy Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Bennie was born November 3, 1929 in Canyon, TX to R.V. and Leola Dawdy. She married Tommy Dale Airhart in May of 1948 in Canyon, TX. She graduated from West Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History and a minor in French. In 1969, she then earned a Masters of Education degree with a specialization in History and Math. Bennie was a lifelong educator in Dumas and Amarillo. Her favorite subjects to teach were Math and History, especially to 7th and 8th graders. She spent countless hours as the executive director for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) from 1989 until it’s closing in 2005.
As a young girl, Bennie loved driving the grain truck to the elevator during wheat harvest. She was well known and loved for her gift of baking, especially during the holidays and Christmas. Bennie loved to travel, go on cruises, and was fortunate to visit places like Alaska, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Copenhagen, Europe, England, Greenland, Iceland, Mexico, and Canada.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Airhart; parents, R.V. and Leola Dawdy and grandson, Justin Blair Airhart.
Bennie is survived by her children, Tony Airhart (Deborah), and Terry Airhart.
