On December 15, 2009 Benny Mathis, Jr. lost his short battle with Cancer. He was born on May 16, 1946 in Ballinger, TX. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Candy of 43 years; two daughters, Shannon Daniels and husband Kenneth, and Shawna Mathis; six grandchildren, Garrett and Cheyenne Daniels, Elizabeth and Ben Renteria, and Marissa and Danika Gephart; two godchildren, Courtney Hanson and Brent Williams; mother- in- law, Bess Yates; two brother- in-laws, Pat and Mark Simmons; cousin and traveling companion, Jimmy and Trisha Jones; along with many good friends and colleagues. Benny Mathis had an incredible work ethic and passion that lead to numerous accomplishments, opportunities and ultimate success during his rewarding career. After attending San Angelo State University, he started his career for the pest control industry in 1968. As part of the Structural Pest Control board as an investigator, he was later promoted to Supervising Investigator. Benny served an important role as the Executive Director of the Board, administering the laws and regulations governing pest control operators. Benny worked diligently on implementing the Texas School IPM program. His active role on the penalty policy, legislative support, speaker of continuing education in major meetings with Texas Pest Control association, Texas A&M and Texas Tech left a major impact on the industry. Benny’s knowledge, willingness, eagerness, passion & numerous accomplishments resulted in his induction into the Aspcro Hall of Fame on August 26, 2003. Benny was an incredible man in so many aspects in both his work life & family life. He was a passionate, loving husband, committed compassionate father, an involved, devoted Papa and a generous, trustworthy friend. Benny instilled in his family the importance of family values & unconditional love, incredible work ethic and most important how to laugh and truly enjoy and appreciate life. It’s absolutely shown in both his daughters and even his grandchildren. Benny and Candy loved to travel & explore old and new destinations taking along their kids, grandchildren, other family members, friends and their beloved pugs Marcel and Boudreaux, making incredible life long memory for all. Benny is an unbelievable kindhearted individual; he truly made a tremendous positive and everlasting impact on everyone around him. The visitation was held on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Ramsey Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Ramsey Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Eric Hartzel of the Cross and Crown Lutheran Church of Georgetown officiating.
