Berdella Joyce Skelcher

Berdella J. Skelcher, age 99, of Marion, IL passed away peacefully with her family near at 6:32 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 in the Integrity Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Marion.
She was born on November 14, 1926 in Centralia, IL the daughter of Emmitt and Ida (Cameron) Simmons.
She was united in marriage to Clifton Lyme Skelcher on December 29, 1945 in Murphysboro, IL and together they shared 68 years of marriage until his death on May 2, 2014.
She spent much of her time managing her home and seeing to the needs of her husband and two boys. When she did have the time, she operated a Janitorial Service along with a friend cleaning homes and apartments, especially in the Carbondale area after the students had moved out.
She was a member of the Lantana Baptist Church of Carbondale, IL.
In her spare time, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts and going out to eat and socializing with her friends.
Her family was a very important part of her life and she always enjoyed the many times they shared together and was always interested in hearing about the many activities going on in their lives. The memories created will now be cherished by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by two children, Larry C. Skelcher of Brownsville, TX and Bradley Skelcher and wife, Dinah L. DeMoss of Marion, IL; two grandsons, Jack Skelcher and wife, Lana of Herrin, IL and Jason Skelcher and wife, Glenda of Harrisburg, IL; four great grandchildren, Caleb Skelcher of Vienna, IL, Colton Skelcher of Herrin, IL, Casey Skelcher of Marion, IL and Danielle Marie Skelcher of Herrin, IL; nephew, Larry Simmons of Mt. Vernon, IL and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifton and brother, Harold Simmons.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 in the Goddard Chapel, located in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion IL, with Rev. Ken Sharp presiding. Those wishing to attend the memorial service should gather at Goddard Chapel prior to 1:00 p.m.
Inurnment will follow next to her husband, Clifton in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion, IL.
For those who prefer, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to "The Voyage" the care facility in Marion that Berdella lived at for a period of time. Contribution envelopes will be available at the Goddard Chapel or may be mailed c/o Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL 62959.
