Bernadette McLeod Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. - Hartsville on Jan. 5, 2026.
In the words of Maya Angelou, "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." These words capture the essence of the life and spirit of Bernadette McLeod, who was born on August 1st, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland. Bernadette, a radiant beacon of love, warmth, and strength, embarked on her eternal journey on December 29, 2025. Her zest for life and her indomitable spirit have left an indelible impression on the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
Bernadette moved to Lamar, South Carolina, a year before her departure, filling her new home with the same cheer and warmth that she had always been known for. Despite her life's challenges and being disabled, she was a woman of incredible resilience and unyielding spirit. The challenges she faced never overshadowed the love and joy she spread around her. Bernadette's life was a testament to her strength, and her journey was marked with moments of grace and courage that continue to inspire her loved ones.
Bernadette, beloved widow of Alphonso McLeod, lives on in the hearts of her loving son, Lamont McLeod and his wife, Angela Ceasar-McLeod; her dear daughter, Bernadette Forte and her son-in-law, Marlowe Forte. She also leaves behind a legacy of love and life lessons for her granddaughters, Shekera (Kenneth) Gainey, Shatoyia Forte, Markia Forte, ShaTara Ceasar, Keana McLeod, and NyTia McLeod. She also was blessed with seven great granddaughters and one great-grandson. Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Rosa Goins; her sister, Lee Anna Scipio, her brother, Willie James Pearson and her husband, Alphonso McLeod. Her life was a beautiful tale of love, resilience, and joy – a tale that will continue to be told and cherished by those she left behind.
