Bernadette B. Scanlan

Bernadette B. "Betty" (Savarino) Scanlan died after a long illness at home in Melrose April 3rd at the age of 71. Betty was born in Wakefield, raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School Class of 1948 and has been a lifelong resident of Melrose. She worked for 10yrs as a nurses aid at New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham and Betty has also been a longtime member St. Mary’s Church Melrose. She was the wife of the late John W. Scanlan. Mother of Mary F. Bates & her husband Ken of Haverhill and Lori Nelson & her husband John of Medford. Sister of Salvatore Savarino of Melrose and the late Louis & Rosario "Junior" Savarino. Grandmother of Ian K., Eric W. and Julia H. Bates. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sat. April 6th at 8AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited.Visitng hours Friday 3-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose.
