Bernadette Anna Wojnar

Bernadette Anna "Bernie" Wojnar, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Born on February 22, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, Bernie was the beloved daughter of Peter and Anna Ziomek. She spent over five decades in her hometown of Detroit, while building a life rooted in family, faith, and heritage.
On May 17, 1958, Bernie married Edward Wojnar. Together, they shared more than 60 years of marriage together, full of dedication and devotion, raising a family together, until Edward's passing in May 2020. She is survived by her children: Anthony Wojnar, Terry Redman, and Ken (Jenny) Wojnar; her five wonderful grandchildren. Zachary Wojnar, Benjamin (Sarah) Wojnar, Mark (Stacy) Churay, Tracey Churay and John Redman; and great granddaughter Ellen Wojnar. Bernie is preceded in death by her husband Edward, her parents, and her sisters, Irene Mazurek and Ann Marie Grabowski.
Bernie was immensely proud of her Polish heritage and was a devout, lifelong Catholic. Affectionately characterized by her family as having a "determined" personality throughout her life, she carried with her firmly instilled values, a deep faith in God and a fierce drive for independence.
Her love for music and singing began as early as her high school choir days and continued with participation in church choir and community choir in her later years. Bernie would confidently contend that her Polish meals and homemade pierogi were the best in town. Her family enjoyed these meals during holiday get- togethers, especially during Christmas. Her favorite pastime was tending to her flower garden, where she found joy and peace among the roses and dahlias that she grew which many times towered above her 5 foot height. She also loved animals, especially dogs.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, her unwavering faith, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind in the hearts of all who knew her.
A private funeral service will be held with Bernie's immediate family.
