Bernadine M. Amendola, age 81, of Erie, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born on May 12, 1943, to Agnes (Malanowski) and Stanley Mackowski, Berna attended Saint Stanislaus Grade School and proudly graduated from Saint Benedict Academy in Erie.
In 1967, Berna married Joseph Amendola at Saint Stanislaus Church, and together they raised three children: Christian, Alyson, and Aaron. As a devoted wife, she shared a deep and enduring love with her late husband, Joe. As a mother, her children were her pride and joy, and she raised them with love, wisdom, and generosity. Known as their "Nonny," her five grandchildren brought her immense happiness, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Berna worked as the Manager of Release of Information in the Medical Records Department at Saint Vincent Hospital for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2000. She then began a 10-year career in health information services at The Regional Cancer Center before retiring from TRCC in 2010.
In addition to her parents, Berna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Joe; a brother-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son Christian Amendola, his wife Kristine Amendola, and their three children: Cecilia, Zachary, and Noah of Westminster, Md.; daughter Alyson Amendola, her husband Matthew Cummings, and their son Conor of Erie; and son Aaron Amendola, his wife Liz Brodzinski, and their daughter Aurora of Chicago. Berna is also survived by her sister Elaine Lamm and brother Bernard Mackowski, both of Erie; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Berna's family wishes to thank Dr. Brad Fox and his team for their compassionate care, friendship, and support.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, on Friday, February 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. They are also invited to a prayer service there on Saturday, February 8, at 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 1 p.m. at Saint George Roman Catholic Church, 5145 Peach Street. Entombment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum. Condolences may be sent to www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com.
