Bernard Carroll Freeman, 85, of Kenna, WV, and a long-time resident from North Matewan, WV, passed away at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV, on December 14th, 2024.
Bernard was born in Phelps, KY on July 17th, 1939, a loving son of the late James and Olta (Dotson) Freeman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by his wife Faye Freeman; his siblings, Ervin (Judy) Freeman, Roger (Yvonne) Freeman, Glenys Layne, brother–in-law George Gourley, and a granddaughter, Loretta McCormick.
Bernard was a loving dad, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was of the Pentecostal faith and always looked forward to attending church.
Those surviving Bernard include his children, Dwayne (Sandra) Freeman of Kenna, WV, and Susan (John) McCormick of Kenna, WV; one brother, Reverend Benny (Linda) Freeman of Phelps, KY, and two sisters, Sandra Gourley, and Ruby (Eddie) Smith; grandchildren, Cassie (Cody) Williamson, Caramie Freeman, Zach Freeman, Taylor (Erin) Freeman, Micah Dotson, Gracie Freeman, Ryan (Christina) McCormick, Krista (Ryan) McGrady, Jonathan (Samantha) McCormick, Breyanna McCormick, Amanda (Johnny Truman) McCormick; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Bernard also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Bernard was a prominent businessman in the North Matewan, WV area. He was the owner/operator of Faye's pizza for 25 plus years. He enjoyed working in his restaurant and serving the public.
The family would like to welcome friends on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024 for visitation from 12:00-1:00 P.M. at Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church.
The funeral service will begin after visitation at 1:00 P.M. and Pastors Benny Freeman, and Barry Lester will officiate.
Bernard will be laid to rest at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, WV following the funeral.
