I will always remember the horseshoe games and Fort Pitt when I was a kid, and having Uncle Bern and Aunt Ruth come out to Santa Barbara for mine and Tina's wedding. I also remember he could hit both the softball and the golf ball large. He was always a kind and gentle man to all of us.
Rest in Peace Uncle Bern. Say I to my Dad.

My sincerest condolences to Brian and the entire family! Mr. Handerhan was my first organized baseball head coach and he coached me until high school. He taught me the game I love to this day. One day at practice I ran flat out into the left field light pole and knocked myself out cold. Apparently, when coach went to remove my glove from me, I slugged him. I don't remember that but I do remember him carrying me to his truck, then carrying me into my house. A big, caring man who took care of me when I was helpless. Thanks Coach (and sorry for swinging at you ;)) Rest in Peace!

The private memories I have of Dad, I will keep for myself to remember and cherish forever, but I will share this one memory.
Dad was a man of few words. A kind, gentle soul, and a good man. A Great Father!
One memory was when my wife, Rita and I went to a lunch buffet with Dad and the rest of the family. We loaded up our plates with lots of good food and then sat down at the table to eat. After sitting there for a bit, Dad started to say something. As I was listening with interest, he said "Too bad we aren't like cows with multiple compartments in our stomach so we could save some of this food to eat later." My wife Rita said to me, "I think in the future your Dad will write a book entitled, "Deep Thoughts" by Bernard Handerhan.
Dad was always there for me, my sister Barb, and my brother Brian. I'm sure we will always remember his love and devotion to us, and to our Mom. Thanks Dad, we all love you!
