Bernard Ingram Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnie P. Bragg Funeral Home, Inc. - Paterson on Jan. 22, 2026.
Bernard Ingram, a cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 7, 2026, in Mount Gilead, North Carolina.

Born on May 25, 1964, in Paterson, New Jersey, Bernard's life was a testament to his kindness, intelligence, and selflessness. He was a beacon of light and inspiration to all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his loved ones.

His journey began as the beloved son of Minnie E. Walker and the late James D. Ingram, and as a cherished stepson to the late LeRoy Walker. His life was enriched by the love and support of his devoted wife and high school sweetheart, Sharon Byrd-Ingram, and their son, Shomari Ingram. Bernard was a caring brother to Calvin Ingram and the late Ronnie Ingram. Bernard's educational journey was marked by his passion for creativity and art.

He graduated from Passaic County Technical- Vocational High School and further honed his skills at the New York School of Visual Arts. His talent and dedication led him to a fulfilling career as a graphic designer. Beyond his professional achievements Bernard served as a T-Ball coach, a flag football coach, and a mentor in The Big Brothers Big Sisters program, where he guided and inspired young lives.

His Christian faith guided him in service and love. Bernard was an avid sports fan, cheering on the New York Giants, New York Yankees, 90's Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, New Jersey Nets, and Ohio State Buckeyes. His love for old black & white movies and smooth jazz music provided him with endless hours of enjoyment. An artist at heart, Bernard loved drawing and appreciated the beauty of nature, often finding peace in the simple pleasure of watching sunrises, sunsets, mountain views, rainbows, and deer in his backyard. Bernard found great joy in cooking for his family and had a deep love for comedy, often attending shows and clubs.

His sneaker, jacket, and watch collections were a point of pride and a reflection of his impeccable taste and personal style. But as much as he loved all of that, nothing compared to how proud he was of Shomari. If you ever had a conversation with Bernard, he was showing you pictures and was glowing with admiration sharing Shomari's latest achievements. He loved being with his family, including his grand dog Aries which he affectionately called "Hey Pretty Girl". Bernard's intellectual conversations were stimulating and enlightening, and he cherished these moments with friends and family.

Bernard leaves to cherish fond memories his loving wife of 35 years, Sharon ByrdIngram; his son, Shomari Ingram; his mother, Minnie E. Walker; his brother, Calvin (Sherry) Ingram; his brothers-in-law, Reginald Byrd, Kevin (Amanda) Byrd, and Kenneth (Sydney) Byrd; his uncles, Mitch (Rosetta) Lango, Marion Lango, and Crawford Lango; and his aunt, Rosetta Hall. Bernard also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

His presence was warm and comforting, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

As we bid farewell to Bernard, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. He was a man who made a lasting impact on the world around him, and his spirit will continue to guide us. Bernard Ingram's memory will be forever cherished, and his life's story will be told with admiration and love for generations to come.
