Bernard Joseph Kielar

Bernard Kielar, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Bernie was husband of the late Barbara Ann (Lachut) Kielar, with whom he shared a lifetime of love. He proudly served the City of Pittsburgh as a firefighter for 33 years. Outside of his career, Bernie enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time with friends, fishing, tackling jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, always enjoying the challenge of figuring things out- an interest that extended with varying degrees of success to trying to master his iPhone. He deeply cherished family vacations where time together and making memories were what mattered most. Bernie was a cherished father of Claudine Kielar and Carey (Darren) Thomas. He was a proud grandfather to Carissa (Adam) Rosenblum, Carter and Campbell Thomas, a loving great- grandfather to Leo and Ilsa Rosenblum. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Kielar and sister, Bernadette Summers. Above all, Bernie was a steady presence and guiding force in his family's life. His strength, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
