Bernard Luskin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheridan Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Aug. 29, 2025.
Bernard E Luskin Jr. (Barney), 78, a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures, died recently in Wyoming. He was born June 13, 1947, in Saratoga, NY, the son of Dorothy (Yellen) and Bernard Luskin.

He attended Stillwater High School before dedicating four years of his life to military service. From 1966 to 1970, during the Vietnam Era, he served proudly in the U.S. Air Force. It was during his time stationed in Billings, MT, that he met his loving wife, Theresa A. Smith. They married in April 1969, and their marriage spanned 56 years.

After his service, he and Theresa moved back to Saratoga, NY, where he became a funeral director for Dunn Funeral Home in Stillwater. He was later employed by General Electric, first at Insulating Materials in Schenectady and then at Silicones in Waterford, before retiring. While in New York, his free time was spent with his unique hobby of pigeon racing, as well as hunting and fishing.

Following retirement, his deep love for the outdoors and his wife's Wyoming roots called to him, and they made the move to the West. He was happiest hunting, fishing, and creating homemade concoctions in the kitchen. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, but his greatest joy was his family, and he was immensely proud of his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love of family, his sense of adventure, and the many stories he shared with friends and family.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Theresa (Smith) Luskin; his children, Kristin (Luskin) Del Negro (Andrew Del Negro) and Andrew Luskin (Lisa Luskin); his sister Deborah (Luskin) Taylor; his four grandchildren, Ellie and Sarah Del Negro, and Andie and Jack Luskin; and his loyal canine companion, General Patton. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He will be buried at the Gerald B.H. Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Terry and the family. When I read Terry's text I was first shocked and then filled with a flood of memories. For several years while growing up Barney and I became quite close. Often fishing for northern and walleyes at Saratoga; hunting especially for pheasants; taking hunting dogs into the fields to run; bailing hay for a $1 per hour; climbing into silos to spread silage; working on a chicken farm; going to Kaydeross on Saturdays to hear live bands and dance; playing basketball; and of course spending a lot of time with his pigeons. Although I wasn´t a big fan he finally convinced me to raise, fly and train homing pigeons. We built a coop on the second floor of my parents detached garage and he stocked it with several of his pigeons. After a couple of months I had enough and politely asked him to come get them or the neighbors would be having a squab dinner. There's so much more, but I guess this is enough for now. I'm a much better person because of Barney and so are many others who had the privilege of knowing this kind, caring man. God bless you Barney.
