Lathan Funeral Home - ChatomIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernard Howard Odom, affectionately known as Ben, who left us peacefully on February 18, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on March 3, 1958, in Mobile, AL, Ben lived a rich and fulfilling life that revolved around his passions, family, and friends.
Ben was a dedicated IT Supervisor at McDonald Douglas, but his talents went beyond the office. He had a knack for collecting guitars and cameras and enjoyed playing music whenever he could. His love for technology extended into building computers and tinkering with electronics, a hobby that brought him much joy. An avid reader and movie buff, Ben was always excited to dive into a good book or introduce friends to his favorite films.
Those who knew Ben will remember his sense of humor; he was a character who loved to joke and spread laughter wherever he went. His old-school soul shone through in the way he cherished visiting and chatting with friends and family. Ben had a big heart and loved his family and friends beyond measure, along with his beloved dog, Bella.
Ben is survived by his brother, James R. Odom (Tammy); nieces Rebekka Dunn (Michael) and Karen Odom (Neal), nephew, Mason Odom (Hannah); niece-in-law, Vania Danu; as well as numerous other relatives and dear friends who will carry on his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Wesley "Bud" Odom and Dyscie Howard Odom; brother, Anthony Keith "Andy" Odom; and nephew, Dustin Odom.
We invite all who knew and loved Ben to join us for a celebration of his life. A visitation will be held at Fairhope Baptist Church on February 23, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. He will then be laid to rest in Fairhope Baptist Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Rocky Odom, Mason Odom, Eddie George, Gary Skipper, and Johnny Silcox.
Bernard will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the joy he brought into our lives.
