Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldman Funeral Group - Buffalo Grove Chapel on Mar. 17, 2026.
Bernard "Bernie" Stern, age 97, beloved husband of the late Audrey Stern, nee Feinberg; loving father of Ron (Cheryl) Stern, Michael (Jacki) Stern, and Mark (Anne) Stern; adored Grandpa of Matthew (Abigail) Stern, Alyssa (Patrick) Reynolds, Jeremy Stern, Jordan Stern, Madilynn Stern, and Charlie Stern; proud "Big G" of Theodore and Olivia Stern and Jake and Eloise Reynolds; devoted son of the late Max and the late Esther Stern; cherished brother of the late Jules (Carol) Stern; dear brother-in-law of the late Phyllis (late Mike) Tuchten; treasured uncle and friend to many. Bernie lived a happy and wonderful life. He went out of his way to make sure he was a great husband and father to his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and was a loving Big G to his 4 great grandchildren. Even though he lived in the Chicago area for the majority of his life, he was always a New York guy. He never gave up his love for his Yankees!! He was very sociable and was quick to start a conversation with anyone. Friends and family shared these words - he was a nice man and a great kibitzer!! He was a great conversationalist that looked forward to sitting and connecting. He never lost this ability to chat with people. He was also very humble. While so many others referred to him as a hero for his service in the Air Force during the Korean War, he always stated he never thought of himself as a hero. He was wrong about that. His pride did show through when he went on his Honor Flight trip - something he always talked about no matter how long ago it was. Bernie will be greatly missed by so many. He was so loved.
