Bernard Welsh

Bernard Michael Welsh was born on July 31, 1943 in Alameda, California, to Joseph and Mary (Gary) Welsh. He passed away on November 13, 2025 after a brief illness at the age of 82. Barney, as he was known, was the youngest of five (Edward, Joseph, Phyllis and Mary). He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nannette (Coe) Welsh, his two children Genevieve and Brendan, and four grandchildren: Oscar, Hazel, Lucy and Zoey.

Barney had many jobs in his life but spent most of the past forty years as an organic farmer in Calistoga. He became well known in restaurant kitchens throughout the Napa Valley and beyond, delivering fresh produce and fresh gossip. A loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend, Barney touched many lives and will be missed by all that crossed his path. His stories and anecdotes, kind words and "Barney'isms", the feeling we had while around him - will not soon be forgotten by those lucky enough to be in his life.

Barney and Nannette moved to Calistoga from the Bay Area into a house they bought sight unseen with money that had originally come from a house won in a card game- it's a long story, and a good one. Barney was known for those.
