Dear Diana and family,
I was saddened to learn of Bernie's passing and send my condolences. I was a freshman wrestler at CCNY when Bernie was a senior. I remember that Bernie was CCNY's outstanding wrestler. He was idolized by every wrestler in the CCNY wrestling room because he could out-wrestle everybody, including wrestlers who outweighed Bernie by almost 40 lbs.
I wrestled Bernie only a few times and it was like wrestling a jellyfish. Bernie was difficult to hold onto, difficult to control and his attack, coming from all angles, was like wrestling two people.
Yet my memory of Bernie is that he was a humble person, soft-spoken and likable. I'm
sorry that I never got to wrestle Bernie more frequently as it would've made me a better wrestler. But I'm glad to have known him and will miss him. Sincerely, Philip Rodman, CCNY 1962. [email protected]. (914)949-7210.
