LIFE REFLECTIONS
Bernice Bohaner Collins was born April 3, 1932 to Scott Bohaner and Lee
Anna Ross Bohanner in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She was preceded in death
by: both of her parents; brothers, Dan Thomas and Scott Bohaner, Jr., sister,
Ester Bohaner Morganfield; and her son Ronnie Bohaner.
Bernice received her elementary education in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She
confessed a hope and a belief in Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and
became a member of Seekwell Baptist Church, Clarksdale, Mississippi,
under the leadership of Reverend E. T. Thomas.
She moved to Chicago in the early 50's and in 1978 she joined Good
Shepherd COGIC under the leadership of Elder Atire Montgomery,
Maywood, Illinois.
In 1960 Bernice united in Holy Matrimony with Arthur Collins who
preceded her in death on December 5, 1991.
Bernice was an employee of the Colbert Package Co., Melrose Park, Illinois
from 1957 until 1994.
After retiring she relocated to St. Louis, Missouri and united with Faith
Miracle Temple, East St. Louis, Illinois under the leadership of Elder Reuben
Dent, serving on the Mother's Board. After a brief period with Faith Miracle
Temple she united with Higher Heights Deliverance COGIC under the
leadership of Superintendant, Pastor Melvin Kindle. She also served on the
Mother's Board until her illness.
On May 12, 2024 her life of 92 years was completed but her memories live
on.
Bernice Bohaner Collins leaves to cherish her memory: four brothers,
Taqiyy (Zoubidna Pasha) of Chicago, IL, Henry Newell of Washington Park,
IL, Wilbur (Glenda) Newell of Omaha, NE and Lawrence Newell of East St.
Louis, IL; one sister, Rosemary Sharpe of Washington Park, IL; two god-
sisters, Deborah Hudson of E. St. Louis, IL and Diane Davis of St. Louis,
MO; one god-brother, Gregory (Bessie) Lewis of E. St. Louis, IL; two god-
daughters, Pastor Easter Goodwin of Chicago, IL and Linda Isom of St.
Louis, MO; one granddaughter, Concita (Albert) Thomas of Irving, TX; two
great grandchildren, Albert Jr. and Jacqueline Thomas of Irving, TX; and a
host of other relatives and friends
