Bernice G. McCutcheon

1920 - 2022

Mrs. Bernice G. McCutcheon, 102, wife of the late Walter Laverne McCutcheon, passed away on November 01, 2022, at her residence in Lake City.
Mrs. McCutcheon was born on September 11, 1920, in Florence County, daughter of the late Alice McAlister Godwin and James L. Godwin. She was a Furman college graduate and a teacher for 39 years with the Florence County District 3 Schools. Mrs. McCutcheon was a faithful member of the Lake City United Methodist Church and was actively involved in her community with the Senior Citizen Center and served several years as a local voting poll leader.
Surviving are her two sons, James Laverne (Sylvia) McCutcheon of Lake City and William Epps (Renee) McCutcheon of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, William Lance (Jenny) Miles, Tiffany Nichole (Joseph) Maggiore, Reagan Roberson, and Eric Bryant; great-grandchildren, Nolan James Miles, Adeline (Addie) Rose Miles, Isabella Talbert, Alexys Close, Cameron Bryant and Annabelle Bryant; sister, Harriett Sue (Thomas) Nelson; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McCutcheon was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Godwin; father, James Godwin; husband, Laverne McCutcheon; siblings, Linder Godwin, Agnes Godwin, Leone Patrick, Ruby Lee Bullard, Uneda Lee, Nell Morris, H.E. Godwin, Paul Godwin and Bill Godwin.
A graveside service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Lake City Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wade Lamb and his staff, Johnlyn Nettles, nurse practitioner, along with health home caregivers, Evelyn Cooper, Zondra Sherrill, Zandrilla Fulmore, Michelle McCray and Millie Altman, the MUSC Hospital staff in Florence and the Regency Southern Care Hospice Service for the wonderful care and support provided to Mrs. McCutcheon during her illness.
