Bernice Modzelewski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Landmark Funeral Home on Dec. 10, 2025.
Bernice Jean (Fabian) Modzelewski, 91 passed peacefully into God's hands on Thursday, December 4, 2025 after a courageous journey with Alzheimer's.

She is predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Anna Fabian, and her brother, Henry. She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, and the love of her life, Henry; and her children, Cathy and her husband, Tom, and Mark and his wife, Rosalie; and two beloved grandchildren, Mark, Jr. and John, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and raised in Toronto, Bernice's early years were filled with energy and curiosity. Her summers working at the Canadian National Exhibition were a source of fond memories-selling burgers, orange juice, and jewelry while sharing laughter and adventure with friends. During college and graduate school, she worked as a long-distance telephone operator, a job that helped shape her strong sense of connection. She earned her degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto and worked at the Catholic Children's Aid Society, guided by a genuine desire to help and support others.

It was during this time that she met Henry, the man who would become her lifelong partner. They fell in love quickly and deeply, marrying in August 1956 and beginning a journey marked by devotion, shared dreams, and unwavering companionship.

Early in their marriage, Bernice and Henry embarked on a cross-country adventure, leaving Toronto for California. Their journey eventually took them to Michigan, Connecticut, Illinois, and Florida. Through every move and new beginning, Bernice embraced each chapter with optimism. Along the way, they raised their children, with Bernice staying home and taking an active role in their daily lives. She enjoyed participating in their activities and was a steady, guiding presence that shaped the adults they would become.

Bernice loved the outdoors and cherished every opportunity to explore the world with her family. Summers spent traveling across the country, visiting historic sites, enjoying beaches and lakes, hiking through forests, and spending time snowmobiling, skiing, fishing, and boating created countless treasured memories. With Henry by her side, she later traveled far and wide-to Alaska, China, Italy, Poland, and many other destinations, often joining friends and family on memorable cruises. These were years filled with joy, discovery, and togetherness.

Known for her warm spirit and welcoming nature, she was the kind of person who made every room brighter. Friendly and outgoing, she had a remarkable gift for bringing people together-hosting gatherings where laughter flowed easily and her home was always open to friends, both old and new. Her cherished friendships were among her greatest joys, and she nurtured them with genuine care and kindness.

Bernice and Henry shared a lifelong love of music and dancing. They could often be found gliding across the dance floor, hand in hand-a reflection of their enduring partnership and the joy they found in each other's company.

She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and connection-one built through countless shared meals, heartfelt conversations, and moments of joy. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to give our deepest thanks to the truly caring and compassionate staff at Palm Garden of Aventura. Your kindness, patience, and dedication over the years have meant more than words can express.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, December 12, at 12:30 PM at Little Flower Catholic Church, 1805 Pierce Street Hollywood, Florida. She will be interred at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500S State Road 7, North Lauderdale, FL 33068 at 2:30PM.
