Bernice Wilhelm Obituary

Published by Tarring Cargo Funeral Home on Feb. 27, 2014.
Bernice Carla Wilhelm of Aberdeen, MD died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Stella Maris in Baltimore. She was 62 years old. Born in Fort Knox, KY while her father, William D. Wilhelm Sr. (late) and mother, Patricia D. Wilhelm were stationed there during the Korean War. She was an "Army Brat", and very proud of it. Bernice was the eldest of two children. She had one brother, William D. Wilhelm, Jr. whom she adored. She went to Germany and traveled to Italy to the home of grandfather, Paul Del Signore, and went to Holland, Austria, Switzerland and lived in government housing in Munich. She attended school through 6th grade, and returned to the States where they were assigned to Aberdeen Proving Ground. She completed her schooling in Aberdeen, graduating from John Carroll School in 1969. She went on to college, first in Carroll College in Helena, Montana, but graduated from Florida International University, Miami with a degree in Medical Records Administration. She furthered her education with a Master's Degree in clinical psychology in Great Falls, MT., graduating first in her class. She worked as a clinical psychologist in Sheppard Pratt, Baltimore, in the Maryland school system in Edgewood and finally at Alliance, Inc. in Bel Air, MD prior to her bout with cancer. Bernice loved her jobs and especially working with children. She fought the good fight for four years, but could no longer win. She succumbed to the dreaded disease on February 27, 2014. She was a "Red Hatter", but did not attend much, and also belonged to the Sons of Italy and Ladies Club at the Knights of Columbus. She loved to dance, laugh at animal antics on television and her cat, "Pookie". She was married and divorced and had no children. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Claude and Pauline Wilhelm of Aurora, WV and Paul and Vincenza Del Signore of Oakland, MD and her Father, William D. Wilhelm Sr. of Aberdeen, MD. She is survived by her mother, Patricia Wilhelm of Aberdeen, MD, and her brother, W. David Wilhelm, Jr, sister in law Karen Wilhelm, and nephew/godson William David Wilhelm III of Whiteford, MD. A visitation will be held at the family owned Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 2–4 and 6-8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Thursday, March 6, 2014 beginning at 10:00 AM.
