Bert Junior Bannister, age 86, of Seymour, Indiana, formerly of Crothersville, Indiana, and the son of the late Gerald E. and Helen (Engle) Bannister was born on August 9, 1938 in Jennings County, Indiana. He attended Crothersville High School until he enlisted in the United States Navy on January 9, 1956, where he faithfully served our country until he was honorably discharged on January 8, 1962. On June 10, 1960, he was united in marriage to Barbara Sue Eble in Uniontown, Indiana by Reverend Mosley, and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together, until her passing. In 1961, he began working at Gardner Box in Seymour where he became the Plant Supervisor. In September of 1992, he became the co-owner of Hendricks Box Company in Brownstown, Indiana where he worked until his retirement in 1999.
Bert was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1083 in Crothersville. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting wood, watching IU Basketball, and sitting on the porch. Mr. Bannister passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.
His life will be cherished by his daughter: Tammy Swindell and her husband, Jack of Seymour; his son: Greg Bannister and his wife, Christine of Bowling Green, Kentucky; his grandchildren: Kyler Blevins and his wife, Carly of Crothersville, and Caleb, Cheyanne, and Clarissa Bannister, all of Bowling Green, Lauren Swindell of Indianapolis and Lindsay Swindell of Columbus; his great grandchildren: Kolton, Kase, and Keller Blevins of Crothersville; his sister: Sondra Hart of Crothersville; his brother: Clifford Bannister and his wife, April of Austin, Indiana; and his sister-in-law, Penny Hollin and her husband, Terry of Crothersville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Bannister who passed away on December 6, 2015; his brother: Eugene Bannister; and his sisters: Ruby Johnson and Gail Solsberry.
Reverend Jim Kelley will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Christensen Family Funeral Home in Seymour. Friends and family may visit from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will follow in the Cana Cemetery in Crothersville. The American Legion Post #89 of Seymour will provide military honors.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Crothersville Jr/Sr. High School Athletics Department.
