Bert Sussmann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals & Cremation Service on Dec. 24, 2025.
Bert Sussmann, beloved father, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025.

Bert was born on May 30, 1935, to Arnold and Luzie Sussmann in Stuttgart, Germany. His early life was marked by remarkable journeys across the world. His parents spent the next three years in Germany before relocating to Shanghai, China, where they lived until 1947. The family then moved to Quito, Ecuador, where they remained until 1955. That year, Bert migrated to the United States and ultimately settled in Cleveland, Ohio.

It was in Cleveland that Bert met the love of his life, Florence. The two were married in Brooklyn, New York, and in 1967 made their permanent home in Old Bridge, New Jersey, where they built a life together and welcomed their daughter, Tracy.

Bert proudly served his country as a United States veteran, stationed at Fort Dix. He carried that sense of pride and dedication throughout his life. A devoted sports fan, he faithfully cheered for the New York Mets and the New York Jets. In his quieter moments, Bert found joy in collecting pennies, a hobby he truly cherished.

He was also an active member of the Old Bridge Senior Silver Linings Club, where he enjoyed meeting new people, socializing, and forming lasting friendships.

Bert is survived by his loving daughter, Tracy, and her husband, Christopher Buckley, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. Known for his kindness and gentle spirit, Bert will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Beth Israel Cemetery located at US Highway 1 North Woodbridge, New Jersey 07095. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.
