Bertha Icard Metsger

Mrs. Bertha Icard Metsger, 80, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at her residence, following a period of declining health. Bertha was born in Burke County on September 10, 1934 to the late John Icard and Mae Stillwell Icard. She was a member of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church and was a retired custodian with the Burke County Public School System. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by ten siblings. Survivors include her loving husband, Alfred Eldon Metsger of the home, her six children; Cynthia Morgan of Newton, Denise Michaud of Morganton, Eric Metsger of Connelly Springs, Pam Smith of Lenoir, Jennifer Wetherby of Charlotte and Kim Drum of Connelly Springs. Also surviving is one brother, Yates Icard, one sister, Frankee Abee, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Sarah Underwood officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorials may be sent to Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O.
