Bertha lived on the same floor as my mother at the Woodlands several years back. She was always beautifully dressed with interesting and colorful brooches. She was always kind and gentle. I thought of her this year because she was born on February 29. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

I met Bertha at the Epiphany of Our Lord Parish Slavic festival at least a decade ago. She was dressed in the traditional Rusyn dress-- beautifully embroidered colorful blouse, a vest also embroidered with flowers, and a lovely red dirndl skirt. In her silver hair was a beautiful wreath of fresh flowers. I remember watching Bertha and a friend dance to the polka band for an hour. What fun they had!
Bertha loved beauty and surrounded herself with pretty things. She loved her Byzantine Catholic Church and was beloved by the congregation. She was a dear lady and I will miss her.
