Bertha E. Young

MITCHELL – Bertha E. Young, 86, Mitchell, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center. Born May 6, 1922, in Bryantsville, she was the daughter of Jack Alvin and Dolly Jane (Blevins) Atchison. She was married to Charles Bowden, Everett Staley, and Clovis Young, all of whom preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and had been employed at Reliance Manufacturing and Spring Mill Inn. Bertha was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene. Surviving: children, Faye Gerkin and friend, Michael Trowbridge, Mitchell Sharon R. Flora, Mitchell Charlie Bowden and wife, Kathy, Bedford Barbara Phillips and husband, Jerry, Mowequa, Illinois stepchildren, Gary Young, Mitchell Cheryl Butler, Mitchell Connie Scott, Oolitic Kevin Staley, Bedford 7 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren 7 great great grandchildren sister, Erma Pemberton, Bedford brother, Gene Atchison, Mitchell Her parents; husbands; sister, Loretta Rush; and brothers, Leon, Earl, and Leland Atchison, preceded her in death. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Bechtel officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
