Death Notice

Bessie M. Stelzleni

1935 - 2023

Yesterday, we lost our beautiful mother. She will forever be in our hearts and on our minds. Bessie Marilyn (Daubs) Stelzleni was born on January 7, 1935 in a small Missouri farming town called Glen. She was daughter of Ralph and Sybil Daubs and sister to Fred, Jessie, Bill, Johnnie, Charles, Bea, Patsy and Glenita Daubs. Although life was hard for the Daubs family, Marilyn had fond childhood memories of her life in Glen and other parts of Missouri and Illinois. She moved to Missouri immediately following her graduation from Winsor High School in Illinois; first working for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator and then at McDonnell Douglas where she met Gary Stelzleni. Gary and Marilyn were married in 1957 in St. Louis. They moved into a small second story apartment in Pinelawn, and later to a fairly new house on Earl Drive. Gary continued to work at McDonnel Douglas while Marilyn remained at home to raise Gina (Siebe), Lisa (Scherer) and Anna (Jewson). Gary's work took the family to live in Key West, Florida, England, and Northern Ireland. While living overseas, Marilyn and Gary traveled throughout Europe and Africa visiting 14 different countries. They saw amazing sites and created lasting memories. Soon after returning to the United States the marriage dissolved.
Marilyn demonstrated resiliency, dignity, and perseverance in raising her three daughters as a single parent. She was able to provide for each and ensured their future was based on chosen destiny. Gina entered the field of Education, earned a PhD, and became a Teacher, Elementary School Principal, and Adjunct Professor. Lisa received a BA in Business Communication and became a Compliance Manager and Anna a Payroll - HR Coordinator for the City of Hazelwood. Marilyn became a grandparent as each of her daughters raised families. Gina married Steven Siebe and together they adopted and raised three children; Cameron Siebe (spouse Megan), Clayton Siebe, and Caleb Siebe. Lisa married Tom Scherer and together they raised four children; Ryan Stelzleni, Joel Stelzleni, Elizabeth Scherer and Caitlyn Scherer (spouse Trent Dailey). Her youngest daughter, Anna, married Mike (Kenneth) Jewson and they raised three children; Missy Jewson (spouse Pat Dickens), Sara Jewson (spouse Tyler Smith) and Mathew Jewson. Marilyn became a great grandmother when Evelynn Puchalla, Charlie Dickens, Molly Dickens, Owen Dickens, Taylor Siebe, Leo Siebe, Max Siebe, and Nona (Pepper) Siebe were born. In 1979, Marilyn took in a young college student, Cindy Hohlt (O'Hare). Cindy became her fourth daughter and was equally as loved and cared for as the other three. Other family members include her cousin Rita Ploch, nieces: Teresa Daubs (Barber), Stephanie Brick (Hensley), Blair Alexander, Dory Baker, Laurie Ann Daubs, Pam Daubs (Colson), Marcie Wise (Skonieczny) and nephews: Louis Marlin, Jr., Dennis Daubs, Steve Daubs, Johnnie Daubs, Clay Shingleton, Jason Shingleton, David Brick, Chris Brick, Robbie Brick, Wayne Daubs, Dale Daubs, Cam Alexander, Josh Baker, Tony Daubs, Greg Wise, and Brad Wise. There are other family members not named as the Daubs family was a large one. Marilyn was extremely talented. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, painting, drawing, chair caning, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She enjoyed sharing these talents with her daughters and grandchildren.
For the most part, she simply enjoyed being with family. Several years ago, Marilyn developed dementia which slowly took over her mind and body. She was lovingly cared for by her three daughters up to her last day. They honored her wishes not to be placed in a nursing home or to receive invasive procedures. She passed away peacefully in her own home. Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of family, traditions, and values, as all who truly knew her learned from her example of grace, forgiveness, generosity, kindness, empathy, compassion, and patience. She was loved dearly and will be missed beyond measure.
