Happy Heavenly Kwanza PGDR Bessie Willis

Bessie was one of the sweetest and kindest souls I have ever met and I was so grateful to have been her neighbor for about 6 years. I am often reminded of her when I look at a plant I have in my home that started as a small cutting gifted from one of Bessie's incredible prickly pear cactus plants on her front porch when she lived next door in Wilbraham, MA. It's now over 6 feet tall! I thought of her again tonight and decided to look her up and am so incredibly sad to see that she's passed on. (102 years old! Wow! What a journey!) She was always dressed to the nines and loved when friends and family would visit. We often stopped to chat in our driveways and she was incredibly sharp, sweet and generous, and she loved a good laugh. Her smile could truly turn my day around. She asked me to take her photo back in 2014 (and wanted to make sure we got a pic of her with her license plate!) and we had a few good giggles together that afternoon. I was so sad to move away from such an amazing neighbor a few years later, but grateful to have known Bessie and to have called her my friend. I have since given away many cuttings of my Bessie plant to friends and family, and I always tell them where it came from. Rest easy, sweet Bessie, and thank you for being such a kind friend and neighbor. You will not be forgotten.
