Great memories of her as a big-city Louisiana transplant to small-town Tennessee. She was most welcoming and an excellent educator. She made learning interesting and fun.

She was one of a kind. At first she was intimidating. But all she ever asked from me was to be respectful and put forth the knowledge I was given. She knew I loved poetry and made me write at least 3 for extra credits. I remember before graduation she told me she was proud of my writing and even got another teacher involved in helping me advance. She sure will be greatly missed by everyone and us from the
Class of 97

She was my English teacher in 1990-1991. "Doc" Caldwell was my favorite teacher in all my years at WCHS. I am happy to have shared a glimpse in her amazing life. Thank you for that, Doc.

Though I never had the pleasure of being her student, I was always inspired by her spirit. She had a way of cheering for everyone, especially the underdog, and making people feel truly seen. Her spunk, joy, and unmistakable style, including that prom tuxedo, will always be remembered. You could often hear The Ballad of Curtis Loew drifting from her classroom, which felt perfectly fitting for someone who brought so much heart and personality into everything she did.

I will always remember one beautiful afternoon when we were given a break and didn´t want to wait in the student line to get back inside, so we climbed through her classroom windows instead. Imagine our surprise when she was standing there, looking at us like we were crazy. We were absolutely terrified, but she met us with the same kindness she showed everyone. She clearly left a lasting mark on so many lives.

As a dyslexic student she always encouraged and nudged me to go farther. Because of her I was able to break out of the limits I had placed on myself. She was a beautiful soul.
