Lexington, South Carolina - With the utmost respect and most profound sadness we announce the peaceful death of Beth Parrott, on April 10, 2023, in Lexington South Carolina. She was 88 years old.
Minnie Beth Butler, or Beth, was born on January 15, 1935 in Sturgis Mississippi, fifth of the six children of Reverend Simon Dero Butler and Emily Elizabeth Good. Beth attended school in Sturgis, and later attended Blue Mountain College, where she studied Literature and Religion. After college, Beth married Tommy Ray Martin of Yazoo City Mississippi, seventh of the eight children of Charles Curtis Martin and Mary Etta Williford. Tommy and Beth moved to Fairhope Alabama, where they were active in the First Baptist Church. They had a son, Mark Ray (October, 1966), and a daughter, Melanye Kaye (March, 1969), however, Tommy had been killed as a pedestrian in a car accident in July 1968. Beth then lived in Mobile, and later married Thomas Wellington Parrott, of Selma Alabama. Beth later worked in the mortgage lending business and lived in Gulf Shores and Foley Alabama, later moving to Columbia South Carolina. After living in Greenville South Carolina and Wilmington North Carolina, Beth returned to Columbia and retired in Lexington South Carolina. Beth was considered the most sweet, gracious, forthright, genuine, and Christian woman by all who knew and loved her.
