Hello, my name is Hunter
I served as Betsy`s maintenance technician for the last five years.
Betsy was misunderstood by many around her as her strong personality carried on to every conversation. She was extremely passionate about Christ, family, and her community.
When I first started there, I was scared of her as her opinions spoke loud and true. It took a lot of personal changes to understand her and get to a point of mutual respect.
Often id go to her apartment to fix things, only to leave and find she fixed some of mine. I, as someone who was extremely lost and living "fast", Betsy slowed me down when I really needed it. Betsy didn´t see me as who I thought I was. To Betsy I was gods child.
We´d talk about simple things: The weather, flowers, our family, life on a farm, ect.
We´d talk about difficult things: growing old, distance, loss, trauma and heartbreak. Betsy´s warm smile never would leave her face.
Betsy gave me my first "real" paycheck I got from the view- $10. I never cashed it and kept it as a memento. The times I find myself ready to give up I look at it as a reminder that purpose doesn´t always arrive loud or dramatic, but often quietly, through people who choose to see the good in you before you can see it yourself.
Betsy taught me that service is love in action. She never preached at me; she showed me. In her patience, in her generosity, in the way she listened without trying to fix everything. She had a gift for making you feel known and safe, even when the world felt heavy. Through her, I learned that slowing down isn´t falling behind-it´s paying attention to what truly matters.
I am a better man for having known her. Her faith softened my edges, her words stayed with me, and her example continues to guide me. Betsy may no longer be here in the way she once was, but her impact remains-in me, and in everyone whose life she quietly changed.
She saw me as God´s child long before I learned how to see myself that way. And for that, I will always be grateful. God bless
