Betsy Wray Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Oct. 5, 2015.
Betsy Wray, aged 85, died peacefully on October 3, 2015 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Born in Houston on May 4, 1930, Betsy lived her formative years there and graduated from Rice Institute, as it was called then. She met her husband, George Wray, at Rice, and they enjoyed over forty years together. Betsy is predeceased by her beloved spouse, George; her sister, Margaret Ellis and her mother, Bee Belstrom. Betsy was first and foremost a Christian whose goal in life was to glorify the Lord. Her passing signifies her reunification with her family in heaven, a newly healed body and mind, and a life spent forever in the presence of God. She will be remembered by her family for her sense of humor, her generosity, her strong will and her courage to face a dreaded disease with faith and hope. Betsy especially loved her church, Christ Episcopal, and served on its Altar Guild and Vestry. For many years, Betsy volunteered faithfully at Bible Study Fellowship and Rafiki Foundation, and she and George were honored to help bring the BSF headquarters to San Antonio. Betsy is survived by a family who will miss her greatly: her daughter Betty Venson and son-in-law, Mike; her son, Bob Wray and daughter-in-law, Marianne; grandchildren, Katie Loftin (Blake), Emily LeVasseur (Ryan), George Venson, Sealy Wray, Elizabeth Wray and Patrick Wray. In addition, Betsy was blessed to have four great grandchildren, Landon, Hadley, Jay and Rosie. She will also be missed by several devoted nieces and nephews and a host of good friends. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Paul H. Smith for his tender care and Betsy's nurses for their unflagging support of her through difficult times: Irene Carillo, Maria Oviedo, Irma Valero, Janie Gonzalez and Norma Atilano. CELEBRATION OF LIFE THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 2:00 P.M. CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH 510 BELNAP PLACE Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Christ Episcopal Church or Bible Study Fellowship.

Please accept my sympathies for the loss of Betsy. I remember her well as a young girl, who lived down the street from our family in Houston. She was a good friend to my sister Ruth Ann Clark Winters and was maid of honor at Ruth Ann's wedding. I remember her fondly.
