Bettie Jean Hill Sones
October 28, 1944 - September 1, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bettie Jean Hill Sones, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Bettie passed away peacefully in her home on September 1, 2025, at the age of 80.
Bettie was born on October 28, 1944, to the late Hubert and Bessie Hill. Bettie married Joseph B. Sones in 1968, and together they shared 56 years of devoted and unwavering love. As a wife, Bettie was a source of strength and devotion, and her bond with Joseph was a testament to the power of true partnership.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph B. Sones; daughter, Rhonda Defiore; and son-in-law Trent Defiore, along with her two grandsons, Colbi and Stefan Defiore, who brought her great joy. Bettie is also survived by her sister, Shernell (Dale) Gordon, and numerous other family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanette Kennedy; and her great-grandson, Milton Skyler Defiore.
Bettie's faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a longtime member of White Chapel Church of God, Bettie played both the piano and the organ, taught Sunday School and served as Treasurer.
Bettie's athletic achievements also left an indelible mark on her community. As a talented guard on the Pearl River Central High School 61-62 Lady Devils basketball team. Her skill and dedication earned her a place in the Blue Devils Athletic Hall of Fame in October 2016.
A special thank you is extended to the compassionate staff of Enhabit Hospice for their exceptional care, with particular gratitude to Bettie's loving and dedicated nurse, Ashley and aide Jocelyn. We would also like to express our deepest appreciation to Cathy Lord and Maranda Johnson, for providing love, care, and support to both Bettie and her family during this difficult time.
Bettie was known for her kindness, generosity, and strength. She brought warmth to every room she entered and touched the lives of everyone she met. Her legacy of love, faith, and compassion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral Services to celebrate Bettie's life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at White Chapel Church of God with visitation at 10:00 am and services at 11:00 am. Services led by Bro Jerry Hubbard, Bro Danny Roy Johnson and Bro Robin Martin.
