Betty Lou Adams (Burton) was born on January 12, 1939, in Big Spring, TX. She passed on Monday, November 24, 2025. Her parents were Virgie Burton (Moody) and James Samuel Burton, both deceased. After the untimely death of her mother, Betty lived with her maternal grandparents while her father served in World War II.
After the war, her father brought Betty and her sister DeLores to East Texas to live with his parents, Thad and Cassie Burton. She excelled at Smyrna School and was offered the chance to skip a grade due to her keen intelligence but chose to remain with her friends. She often recounted the time she skipped class in first grade to go to the movies. She attended Atlanta High School and graduated as salutatorian. After graduation, she met Tommy Oliver Adams. They married in 1959 and have three children.
Betty worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Shreveport, LA, for thirteen years. After that, she moved to the Huffines, TX community. There, she became a Rural Letter Carrier for the United States Post Office and retired in 2002.
After retiring, she pursued her plan to become a quilter. She made many quilts, taught others the craft, and formed dear friendships with fellow quilters. She gathered at the Huffines Community Center for quilting, where she also served as Treasurer for many years.
Betty faithfully worshipped at Huffines Baptist Church and served as Treasurer until earlier this year. She will be interred in the Huffines Community Cemetery in January.
She is survived by her children, Tammy McAnally (Robert), Mona Adams, and Tad Adams, and her grandchildren, Michael Adams (Kelci), Adam McAnally (Elena), Robin Nakakura (Kenni), and Marla Munsinger. Her great-grandchildren have blessed her so much. They are Eric Munsinger, Hudson Adams, Jayna Munsinger, Jared Munsinger, Nolan Adams, Emry Kate Adams, Isabella McAnally, Eva McAnally, Conrad McAnally, and Louis Nakakura (her namesake). Her soon-to-be-born great-grandson, Keanu Nakakura, will be told many stories of his Mammaw.
Other dear family members who survive her are her sister, Tish Burton (Joe Allred), and her sisters-in-law, Dean Byrum and Pat Adams, along with many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. She was blessed to have special lifelong friends, Margaret Morgan and Melanie Cruson.
Betty passed with her loving family at her side. She is reunited in Glory with her parents, husband, and sisters, Martha Jo Lewis and DeLores Tolleson.
The family wishes to thank Heritage Health and Hospice for their attention to detail and kind explanations during Betty's final days. Special thanks go to her devoted caregiver, Chaz Armstrong, whose support and care provided much comfort.
