Kendallville - Betty Jean Berhalter, 91, of
Kendallville, Indiana, died Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Chandler Place Assisted Living in Kendallville.
She was born March 29, 1934, in LaGrange, Indiana, to Russell and Agnes (Kleinert) Bailey.
She graduated from Wolcottville High School where she was Valedictorian.
On September 13, 1953, in Wolcottville she married Jack Edwin Berhalter. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2009.
Mrs. Berhalter began working at the bank in Wolcottville and at Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home (now Young Family Funeral Home) in Kendallville. She worked for 25 years at Kendallville Bank & Trust in Kendallville and retired after six years at the Noble County Clerk's office in Albion. After retirement, she worked part-time at the Noble County Treasurer's office.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville, where she served on the Monday morning money counting group for many years. She was also a member of Sigma Beta, Kendallville American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary, and Kendallville VFW Post 2749 Auxiliary.
Betty enjoyed going to the American Legion for coffee and to visit with her friends.
Surviving are two sons, T. Alan (Cindy) Berhalter of Kendallville and Dennis (Mary) Berhalter of Phoenix, Arizona; two daughters, Barbara (John) Anible of Jenison, Michigan and Cheryl (Howard) Mapes of Kendallville; eight grandchildren, Tim (Sherry) Berhalter, John (Karlee) Anible II, Danielle (Steve) Venlet, Kathryn Anible, Jennifer (Jason) Pease, Tiffany (Nick) Wells, Art (Kentrina) Mapes, and Laura Mapes; 16 great-grandchildren Becca (Riley) Rasler, Ashley (Max) Carroll, Conner Wells, Lily Anible, Reese Venlet, Talin Venlet, Sierra (Derek Newcomer) Stout, Logan Pease, Kyndal Pease, Kendaya (Mitch) Comparet, Tyler Mapes, Lucas Mapes, Chance Mapes, Haydyn Mapes, Toni (Dean Click) Berhalter and Derek (Crystal) Berhalter; and nine great great-grandchildren, Harliegh Rasler, Ayvree Newcomer, Brynlee Newcomer, Beckham Comparet, Kaitlynn Berhalter, Reid Berhalter, Jaden Click, Vera Click, and Ronin Click.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ty Berhalter; a great-granddaughter, Kensingten Parks; four brothers, Russell Bailey, Jack Osborn, Marion "Sod" Osborn, and Harry Bailey; and three sisters, Frances Archer, Mary Stewart, and Bernice Mullett.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Philip Rigdon of St. John Lutheran Church officiating.
Pallbearers are Tim Berhalter, John Anible II, Nick Wells, Jason Pease, Logan Pease, Art Mapes.
Preferred memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.
