Betty Akino Bersamin, 93, of Wailuku, formally of Kihei, passed away peacefully at Hospice Maui on January 21, 2026. She was born in Honokaa, Hawaii on October 19, 1932, to Alberto and Mitsue Cacho. She was known as "Grandma B" to many. Betty attended St. Anthony School in Wailuku and graduated in 1952. As a teenager, she started her life in retail working at her parent's fish market in Waikapu. She also worked at Kress Store and then at Ben Franklin store until she purchased her first business in 1961. She was the proprietor of Bersamin's Fish Market, on Hana Highway in Paia town, for the next 27 years until retiring in 1988. Betty will be remembered for her famous Tako poke. After retiring at age 55, Betty traveled to Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China, Canada, and all over the United States. Her favorite destination was Las Vegas, often traveling with her friends and family members.

Betty is survived by daughter Vanessa Kina and son Ivan (Lylis) Bersamin, Grandchildren: Erik Kina, Jayson (Amy) Kina, Dayna (Chad) Kawazoe and Tyler (Cheynice) Bersamin. She is also survived by Great-Grandchildren Makana, Keani and Kai Kina and Emi Kawazoe.

She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Phillip Bilgera Bersamin, parents Alberto and Mitsue Cacho and brother Kevin Cacho.

The Family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Shukri Osman of Island Kidney Care, Liberty Dialysis Center, Maui Memorial Medical Center, MEO Bus Transportation, Hospice Maui, Nakamura Mortuary and Ashley Rames.

Funeral services will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on Thursday, February 26, 2026; Visitation starting at 9:00 a.m.; Service at 10:10 a.m., Burial to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery.
