Betty Bowden Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burns Funeral Home of Perry on Jan. 8, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Lou Bowden, aged 76, who left this world on January 4, 2026. Born on November 10, 1949, in Brooksville, Florida, Betty was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend. She dedicated her life to her family and her work, serving as a bookkeeper in the Hernando County Transportation department, where her diligence and attention to detail were well-respected.
Betty was a warm and caring soul, known for her generous spirit and her ability to bring joy to those around her. She found great happiness in her role as a mother to her daughter and son, Elizabeth and Chance, and in the partnership she shared with her devoted husband, Jim Bowden. The love she bestowed on her family was immeasurable, and her nurturing presence will be sorely missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Doc and Barbara Westmoreland; her brothers and sisters, Tommy, Charles, and Becky.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jim Bowden; her children, Elizabeth Shuayb and Chance Bowden; her grandchildren, Jenna Bowden, Kaylee Bowden, Lillian Bowden, Hunter Bowden, and Kayden Bowden, Sarah Shuayb, Layla Shuayb, Aminah Shuayb, Husam Shuayb, Saladin Shuayb, and Adam Shuayb; her sister, Dot Westmoreland; her sister-in-laws, Judy Bowden-Calhoun and Lawayne Bowden-Sadler; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held in her honor at Carlton Cemetery on January 7, 2026.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember Betty for her kindness, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
