Betty Jo Calvert, 85, a resident of Okmulgee, passed away November 09, 2024 in Okmulgee, OK.
Betty was born Sunday, November 13, 1938 in Pierce, OK to the late Henry and Cora Owen. Betty married the love of her life Harlin Calvert on April 2, 1955.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harlin, and by her sisters Gladys Myers, Barbara Blatchford, Margaret Pierce and brothers Robert Tyler, Curtis Tyler, J.C. Tyler, Bill Tyler & Leo Tyler.
Betty spent years caring for others as they aged as well as raising and caring for her family. Friends and family can recall stories of she and Harlin taking kids to Burnt Cabin Church Camp, Youth rallies, working in the high school concession stand and beautifying the football field following games. She enjoyed her later years especially when her grandchildren (and later great and great, great grandchildren) would visit. Betty could talk to anyone; about pretty much anything. She enjoyed socializing, calling friends and family on the phone, amassing a large OU shirt collection, making candy during the holidays, and of course cheering on her beloved OU Sooners. Her sassy and independent nature was established early and was demonstrated when she left school to go to "town" (Dewar) in 1st grade. This sassiness lasted her entire life; it wasn't unusual to hear her laugh or giving someone a hard time.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann (Keith) Taggart of Del City, Linda Blevins of Okmulgee, Lisa Calvert of Okmulgee and two sons, Harlin Virgil Jr. of Alvarado, TX and Gary (Tammy) Calvert of Henryetta. She is also survived by 10 grand children, (Trey) Harlin Virgil, (Jill) Calvert, III, Katie (Kris) Maxwell, Melissa (Paul) Reaves, (Buffy) Elizabeth Calvert all from Texas, Gary Calvert II, Henryetta, Aaron (Brian) Pullum-Calvert, McAlester, Kari (Josh) Dyer, Newcastle, Kaci (Bernard) Floranda, Oklahoma City, Brian Blevins, Tulsa and Becky (D.J.) Shrum, Okmulgee, as well as many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She also leaves many family members and friends who will miss her.
