ABBEVILLE...Betty Sue Cotton Dominey, a resident of the Screamer community of Henry County, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at her home after an extended illness. She was 93.
Betty was born January 6, 1931, in Henry County, Alabama, the ninth child of the late Oscar Burton Cotton and Mamie Barron Cotton. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Rose Carter, Pearl Adams, Ruth Tye, Lula Watford, John Porter Cotton, George Cotton, Sr., Sarah Cotton and Corrine Scott. In addition, her children, Deborah Hatton Beck and David Lamar Dominey preceded her in death as well as a granddaughter, Kellie Richards Stepanek.
Surviving relatives include her husband of seventy-three years (August 30, 1951), Colon Lamar Dominey; a daughter, Cynthia Richards (Lonnie); grandchildren, Heather Hatton, Courtney Richards Geiger (Aaron), and Austin Richards; great-grandchildren, Michael Thomas Geiger and Emma Joy Geiger.
Betty Cotton Dominey was a member of Liberty Methodist Church for many years and later joined Christian Grove Baptist Church in Barbour County. Betty was involved in ministries serving needs of her family, church, friends and community. She shared the bounty of her kitchen and the many blooms from her flower garden. Betty and her husband, Lamar, were dedicated prayer "warriors" covering others daily with their prayers. A "praying post" in their pasture and a prayer room in their home were early morning sites for the uninterrupted time with God.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in the Liberty Methodist Church with Dr. Matt Mobley, Reverend Mickey Skinner and Reverend Steve Nolin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Winnie Landsverk, 111 Kirkland Street, Abbeville, AL 36310 or Gentiva Hospice, 2431 West Main Street, Suite 1102, Dothan, AL 36301.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce Adams, Dan Landsverk, Austin Richards, Sam Richardson, David Tye and Jim Yance. Honorary pallbearers will be Reverend Joey Hudspeth, Joe Watford and Chad Lewis.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Dominey during her illness.
