Betty Oleta Fakes, 80, of Marion, Indiana, passed away on November 1, 2025, at 4:20 pm surrounded by loved ones at her son's home in Plymouth where she was living. She was born in Bluffton, Indiana, on February 21, 1945, to the late Jesse Butler (Ada) and Dorothy Opal Joy.
On May 27, 1971, she married Dennis Lee Fakes, who preceded her in death on October 20, 2014.
Betty is survived by her children, Angie (Raul) Fakes of Marion, Kevin (Amy) Fakes of Plymouth, with whom she lived, and Jason Fakes of Marion; sister-in-law, Sandy (Gary) Knauer Hurd; grandchildren, Raymond (Brooke), Seth, Megan (Brandon), Tyra, Nathan, Hailey, Ian, Carson, and Ben; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brooklyn, Blaine, Aubrey, Everlee, Oaklee, Xiomara, and Camila; nephews, Barney Jr., Frank (Mary), Ken (Cindy), and Chad (Cindy); niece, Laura (Danny); and cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tamara Joy Fakes; brothers, Barney Sr. and Jimmie; sisters, Clara Mae and Marylin Smith; sister-in-law, Roberta Boblitt; niece, Brenda; niece-in-law, Cheryl; and a grandson, Steven.
Betty worked at RCA, where she met Denny, and then was a CNA at the Marion VA Hospital in Marion. She spent her free time volunteering at St. Martin's Community Center. She enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, hanging out at the pool when they were younger or going to the blueberry festival for some blueberry donuts, ice cream, and fireworks. She loved her fur babies: Pearl, Biscuit, Sandy, and Brandy.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
On Friday, November 7, 2025, a funeral service to celebrate Betty's life will begin at 9:30 am at North Chapel. Pastor Mick Simpkins will be officiating with burial taking place at Marion National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to D.A.V. Bldg. #185, Rm. A119, 1700 E. 38th St., Marion, IN 46953 in memory of Veterans, or to Marion-Grant County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952.
