Betty Velma Grooms age 78 passed away on June 4, 2023 at Gateway Health and Rehab in Cleveland, Georgia. Betty was born in Hayesville, North Carolina on November 18 1944 to Cecil and Maybel Grooms. She was the oldest of five children. She is preceded in death by a son, Gene Bryant Penland, her mother Maybell Grooms, father Cecil Grooms and the father of her children Gene Penland. Betty graduated from Towns County Highschool class of 1964. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Brent and Beverly Penland, one daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Terry Pickelsimer. Also surviving are her two grandsons Tyler Penland (wife Carolann) and Jordan Pickelsimer; three granddaughters Jenna Penland, Katie Penland and Savannah Pickelsimer and great grandson Oliver Penland; great granddaughter Rosie Penland; sisters Barbara Grooms, Dottie Kelley, Nancy Huffman; brother Doug Grooms. Several nieces, nephews and extended friends and family also survive. The family would like to thank Gateway Health and Rehab for their excellent care they have given our mother during her stay there. We are forever grateful for your staff and all the love we have been shown. Visitation: Tuesday June 6th, 2023 12:00-1:30 at Banister Cooper Funeral Home. Graveside: Tuesday, June 6 2023 at 2:00At Bell Scene Cemetery with the Rev. Brent Penland. In Lieu of flower donations may be made to To Gateway Health and Rehab in her memory.
