Sister Betty Gunselman died at Seton Residence November 30, 2025. Sister Betty was born October 29, 1934 in Jasper, Indiana and was one of twelve children of Godfrey and Veronica (Wehr) Gutgsell. She graduated from Jasper High School in 1952 and entered the Daughters of Charity in 1986.
Sister Betty received her initial formation at St. Joseph Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland and earned a Chaplain certificate from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains in Washington, D. C. and a certificate in Healing Touch from Board Certified Chaplains in Mobile, Alabama. Sister served as a Pastoral Care Associate at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan and at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. In 2009, Sister Betty began working in Outreach Services in Evansville, Indiana, one of which was Betty's Boutique at St. Vincent Center for Children and Families. In 2015, Sister Betty came to Seton Residence to serve in the Ministry of Prayer.
Sister Betty is survived by her children, Greg Gunselman, Sue Gunselman and Beth Knapp; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mary Lehmkuhler, Barbara Berger, Patty Sermersheim; her brothers, Larry, James and David Gutgsell; other loving family members, her Sisters in Community and many friends. Sister Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ralph Gunselman; her sisters, Irene Hoban, Lorraine Brown and Lucille Bies; and her brothers, Robert and Sylvester Gutgsell.
The Daughters of Charity Community, Seton Residence Staff and Sister Betty's family are invited to attend services to be held Thursday, December 4, at Seton Residence Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO 63108.
