Betty J. “JoAnn” Hobbs, 89, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Davenport Medical Center.
Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet in the parking lot at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m. There will be a gathering directly after the service for family and friends at the house. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The former Betty JoAnn Delk was born November 2, 1936, the daughter of John Lucian and Martha Elizabeth (Burchell) Delk. She married the love of her life, Albert E. Hobbs, Sr., on February 19, 1956, in Seneca, Illinois. He died January 24, 2019.
JoAnn went to nursing school before becoming a dedicated homemaker and raising her four children. While living in Ottawa, Illinois, she worked for the State of Illinois Road Department and later she really enjoyed her time working for the Illinois Press Association while they were living in Champaign. The family also spent time in Pekin, Illinois before moving to Eldridge, Iowa. She volunteered for St. Jude’s and was also active in Eastern Star.
She enjoyed gardening and flowers, collecting elephants, and entertaining family and friends at her home. Some of JoAnn’s best times were spent traveling and vacationing, taking their camper all throughout the United States.
JoAnn is survived by three children, Albert Hobbs, Jr., John Hobbs, and Joleen Hobbs, all of Bettendorf; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Susan Edwards; and sisters, Louise and Dorothy Delk, Artie Peel, Patsy Evans, and Shirley Hopkins.
