Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oasis Cremation & Funeral Care on Nov. 2, 2025.
Betty J. Barsness Hossler (January 12, 1926-September 12, 2025)

Betty Hossler, 99-years old (despite continuously telling her grandchildren that she was "29 and holding") went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2025.

She was born in Webster Township, Minnesota in 1926 to Arthur and Cornelia Sjulstad. She grew up in Minnesota with her brother, Lloyd, and sisters, Beverly and Sharon. She met the love of her life, Clarence Barsness, at church and they were married in 1944. They started a family and eventually decided to leave the cold winters behind and moved their family to Tucson, Arizona where she lived for over 75 years.

Betty worked at Hughes for 8 year and then joined Clarence as a truck driver moving furniture for Bekins across the United States. Many memories were made on the road, and eventually multiple family members were recruited to the profession – even some of the grandkids would meet up with them on the road!

She attended Santa Cruz Lutheran Church was very active in the church. She was always helping with activities at church and enjoyed the fellowship with her friends. Betty would read her Bible every night (she kept a special magnifying glass close by) cherished the teachings of Jesus Christ. Betty took solace in knowing the Lord was watching over her and her family.

Everyone knew how much Betty loved playing games, especially Aggravation. There were thousands of games played in her lifetime with infinite laughter & tears – from all the laughing, of course. And the weekly card games brought her so much joy each week. In her later years, she would play solitaire – we even taught her how to play on her own iPad!

Betty also had a soft spot for her furry friends, treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were. From Tinker to Tweetie Pie, they wouldn't stray far from her. We can't imagine how excited they were to meet her at the rainbow bridge.

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Clarence Barsness; their daughter, Marcia Worrell, their grandson, Douglas Worrell, her second husband, Don Hossler and her brother and sisters. She is survived by her children with Clarence: Randall (Ilona) Barsness, Karen Barsness, Dawn (Ed) Pearson, and Tari (John) Worley; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she leaves behind a void that can't be filled.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 9th at 1:00 PM at Santa Cruz Lutheran Church. Betty always said, "Don't wait until I die to give me flowers." So, in keeping with her literal wishes, Betty would be overjoyed for donations to be sent to ADK Spay and Neuter (https://adkspayandneuter.com). This non-profit charity was very close to her heart, as it was founded by her granddaughter who shares her love of animals.
